Upgrade galaxy s advance to stock 4.1.2 jellybean using Odin.

Upgrading your galaxy s advance gt i9070 using odin is the last step you can use if all the previous one fails.
Odin is a pc software application which is used to flash firmwares as a last option. Or to say a rom flashing tool. Using odin will wipe out all the personal data stored. So i am not going to take any responsibility against your data loss. Odin is generally used to flash official/ stock firmwares usually in .tar extension. You cannot flash custom roms using odin because customs roms are generally in .zip extension. Odin only recognizes .tar firmware/rom format. Another important thing is that not all the samsung devices can be flashed using odin. You must use odin which is compatible for your device. Here we are talking about only samsung galaxy s advance gt i9070 model.

So to upgrade your galaxy s advance gt i9070 device using odin, you will be needing the followings:

1. Samsung USB drivers ( download here )
2. Odin pc software ( download here )
3. Official 4.1.2 Jellybean firmware ( download here ) or here
4. Usb Data cable
5. Pc

First install samsung usb drivers to your pc. Then restart and extract the odin.zip file that you downloaded using a zip or rar extractor.
You will find something like this

Run Odin using administrative privileges.

Now you must put your phone to download mode. You can refer this post and read how to put yor phone to download mode.
Simply turn off your phone, then hold the volume down button + Home button + Power on button until you see the screen turn on to something like this

Now simply connect the data cable to your phone and then connect it to the pc. Odin will automatically detect your phone and will show the "added" text with yellow color sign.

Now do not unplug the cable. If you unplug or if something goes wrong in the middle of the upgrading process by odin, your device may not boot up normally or can have a dead phone.

The next step is to load the downloaded firmware to odin.
Simply click on to the PDA tab and browse to the downloaded firmware ending with .md5 extension.

Click on start.

Odin now will start the flashing process. While flashing, the phone will start receiving files from pc and you should not plug out the cable during this process. After everything completes, the phone will restart. Donot unplug the cable till you see something like this:

After you see the PASS sign, simply unplug the device and start to configure on screen process in the phone. Your device will have the latest jellybean 4.1.2 android version.


After upgrading the phone to 4.1.2, you can now root your device, install custom recovery tool and install custom roms.
