Another great news for s advance users. We have another Custom rom that allows us to have android version 5.1.1. Omni rom, dated 20/06/2015 is released and i've tested on my device. This rom is based on cm 12.1 and has lots of new features. Lots of unnecessary functions are also removed for not making the users confused. Video recording bug still exists on this rom. So, we will have to wait more for this bug to be fixed. Stay connected as i will be guiding and posting news about it.
This rom is super easy to install. You will need co-core r 22 refresh TWRP recovery to flash this successfully. After you select install zip from sdcard and choose Omni rom.zip file, you will see another screen which is the custom installation guide of the omni rom.
Installation process:
- Download the Omni rom file, android latest 5.1 gapps file, super su.zip file and co-core r 22 refresh Twrp recovery file and copy it to your phone
- Reboot into recovery or simply poweroff, and press home + volume up + power button to boot into recovery.
- Choose install zip from sdcard and choose the co-core refresh r 22 TWRP.zip file. If you are trying to install this rom from Cm12.1, you can enable Update Recovery from developers option to automatically have latest TWRP recovery. You wont have to install co-core r 22 if you perform this task.
- You will then be in TwRP recovery. Perform wipe (Swipe to wipe).
- Go back and choose install. Navigate to the rom file and install.
- After you select install zip from sdcard and choose Omni rom.zip file, you will see another screen which is the custom installation guide of the omni rom. It will guide you through the installation process. The guide you will go through is easy. You will have to choose your phone model ( i9070 or i9070p ). Choose according to your device model, finish up the process. You can choose to reboot that time without flashing the gapps.
- Reboot your device. The first boot takes time to boot up. Leave it for at least 5 min. You will not have to setup the phone to use it for the first time like we used to do on CM12.1. You phone will directly boot up and will be ready to use.
- Reboot, or power off and boot into recovery to flash the Gapps.
- This time you will have a different custom recovery named Philz Touch 6. Omni rom is loaded with its own custom recovery. This recovery is touch enabled. You can also navigate using volume up and volume down keys and select using power button. Back button also works and you can go back pressing the bottom back button of the device. So, you can now navigate, select and cancel the way you want it. In addition, this recovery also allows you to control with 4 on screen butons. 3 Triangles to navigate up and down and to go back, and a Circle to perform select.
- Select Install zip and flash the gapps file.
- Reboot.
Your device will reboot and you will have a working android 5.1.1. Enjoy!
Additional Guide.
- If you want to have root access, then you will have to reboot into recovery, perform re-root system from the option found in Advance Functions section. You will then have to install super user app ( SU apk ) .
- Another bit confusing part in this rom is that the phone's storage and the sd card storage are swapped. This means, the primary storage now is your Sd card storage and the secondary storage is your phone's storage. You know the advantage of this.
ie:
SDcard0 = External micro sd card storage
SDcard1 = Internal phone's storage.
You may get little confused with this in first. You copy and place the rom and gapps file on your sd card and you choose install zip from sdcard1, you will not find the files there. Instead, choose install zip from sdcard0. And vice versa if you copy the files to phone memory to flash. - In-order to have your contacts back and to download apps from playstore, sign-in to the playstore with your google id ( gmail ).
- System File manager is named as Documents.
- Xposed is working on this rom. To install xposed, you will have to flash the xposed arm file from recovery. You can prefer to the guide on how to install xpose for android 5.1.1 on this site here.
- Im having hard time taking screenshots on this rom. I will soon find a way and upload my own screenshots.
